What it shows

Daily readings

The Epistle and the Gospel in full text, not only the reference — and the Matins Gospel on Sundays.

Commemorations

The saints and feasts of the day, with their own readings, in the order the Typikon prescribes.

Fasting

Fasting days, the degree of the fast, and the fast-free weeks of the year.

Date and tone

The date in both the Old and the New Style, the day of the week, the week of the cycle, and the tone.

Computed, not stored

The calendar is not a transcription of one year. The Paschal cycle is computed from the Julian Paschalion, and every movable feast follows from it: Great Lent, Holy Week, Pascha, the Sundays of the Pentecostarion, Mid-Pentecost, Ascension and Pentecost. The Matthew–Luke sequence of readings is worked out the same way, including the September transition and the January resynchronisation — the places a printed calendar is easiest to get wrong.

So you can look up any day — this year, a year long past, or a year far ahead — and the readings, the feast and the fast are already worked out for that day.

About the texts

The biblical and liturgical texts in the app are the traditional ecclesiastical texts of the Georgian Orthodox Church. They are centuries old and in the public domain; no copyright applies to them.
